| My uncle passed away a few weeks ago and he still had a balance of $20,000 on his credit cards. My aunt's name was not on the credit card account and she had no knowledge that he had such accounts. Will she still be liable for paying this debt? She resides in Virginia. |

| In most cases, a spouse is not liable for the debts of another spouse so long as they were only in their name. Their are some exceptions to this, especially in community property states. A quick call to a local lawyer, which will likely cost nothing, could get her the answer. Thanks for helping her out.
