My response:

It's a collection agency, isn't it?

They are trying to collect a debt, and they hope they can fool you into paying it, hoping that you don't realize that the Statute of Limitations has run out, years ago, which is 4 years on a written contract, or 4 years on an "open account - e.g., credit card", from the date of last payment. Tell them to "go pound sand on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico."

I would tell them to go golf in the Gulf or take a long walk down a short pier.

Whole heartedly agree with the last responders. In addition file a complaint against them if it is a collection agency collecting for them. You can learn how to do that from this article and the links it gives you to information on the ftc site.
