Divorce, Bancruptcy, Deceased Ex

What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

My problem is similar to other posts here, but with a slight twist. My ex and I were legally divorced 5 years ago. At the time of the divorce he apparently kept several joint credit cards. These all had 0 balances when the divorce was finalized. In the divorce decree was a clause that neither of us would engage in any transactions, including bankruptcy, that would negatively affect the other.

As you've probably guessed, he ran up some large bills on several of the joint credit cards after the divorce. He ended up declaring bankruptcy and was discharged from these debts. I am now being contacted by the creditors and they are demanding that I pay these bills. Financially, I am unable to do so.

To complicate matters further, my Ex has passed away. Am I legally responsible to pay these debts, even though they were contracted after the divorce? I believed that the divorce decree absolved me of any past debts, as we amicably settled all outstanding bills at the time of the divorce, but I never gave a thought to future debts.

Do I have ANY options/recourse here?

TIA

Unfortunately, creditors don't give a rat's butt about any divorce decree or agreement you had with your Ex. All they care about is that YOUR name was on the joint account and that means YOU are liable for the debt - and they want your money to pay it.
