My friend received a notice that her ex-husband has filed Chapter 13. One of the items listed is her home mortgage. He is no longer on the deed, but his name is still on the mortgage. She has paid the mortgage herself for the past 2 years (since the divorce). How will this affect her credit history?

Since your friends ex's name is still on the mortgage, he must report the mortgage as a liability on the BK petition schedule. The mortgage company remains a secured creditor no matter what. Since he is not on the deed, legally the property would not be considered as an asset of his. Your friends credit report will most likely show the BK as it affects the mortgage that the ex is on.
