I live 6 months in New Jersey & 6 months in South Carolina.

Which state should I file my claim? Both have filing fees, I believe. Aren't Bankruptcies filed in Federal Court? I have a large judgement against me filing chapter 7 should solve that problem. Basically I'm retired since I just freelance periodically.

BK is FEDERAL LAW, therefore the filing fee is universal - $209 for a Ch 7.

The residency requirement says you can file in the state where you have spent the greater part of the 180 days prior to your filing. That means you have to have lived in your current state for a LEAST 91 days before you can file there.

What kind of judgment ? Not all debts are dischargable.

The judgement is a consumer unsecured debt. I was mainly in NJ at that time.

$209 isn't what I had been told, Newark NJ had stated $315 or something around that figure. I like you number best.
