How Long Should this take?

I'm in MA. My s/o has filed and his lawyer doesn't return his calls. He has asked for a doc number, for his case the office says they don't have it, lawyer does. (should her admin have this information?) He was told it takes three months from the time she has filed it. We were hoping to get married next month and have had to cancell it now.

Shouldn't the admin in the lawyers office have the information needed? Also lawyer never returns his calls. How long should it take her to get back to him. I know I never had to wait more than a day for a call back from any lawyer.

Would we have problems trying to purchase a home right away?
His lawyer claims no, as my s/o makes good money and once the case is settled he will be selling his old house that his ex lives in so that will be used for a deposit. Is this true?? As I've been told
differently by others.

My husband and I filed chapter 7 in DE on 8-29-01. We had our 1st meeting of creditors on 10-3-01. We should get our discharge about 12-3-01. As soon as our lawyer filed he sent us a copy of everything. This way we would have info for any creditor that called. As far as the house issues, I'm not sure. We didn't own any property or house. However, we've been told we'll need to wait about two years and then probably qualify for FHA. This came from a mortage company. This as info from our experience. I have no law knowledge. Just our personal experience. Hope this gives you some insight.

Thanks for your response. I filed back in 90/91 and my husband at the time took care of everything, the only thing I remembered was going to court and it taking 5 minutes.

I'm really starting to wonder about this lawyer he got. He told me he got it out of the yellow pages.....wonderful don't ask anyone. I'm not sure what chapter he is filing, I know its going to be that he has to pay some of the debt back to the creditors its
just going to be alot less than what he has now.
