I Need A Lawyer!!!I received a letter from a lawyer requesting me to attend court for a bill that has been delinquent for a while. I got a divorce from my husband and got stuck with the bill. I called the company and requested that they put the bill under my name only being that I am responsible for it. They told me no because the contract is under my husband's name too. I told them that I would not pay it until the contract is drawn under my name only. I explained to them that I didn't want to pay for something that he can use also. Now they are taking me to court. I told them that I have no problem paying it but it has to be under a new contract without his name on it. I am looking for a lawyer but I don't know what type of lawyers would handle this type of case. Any ideal what type of lawyer I would need to look for? THanks. |

| Need to know your state ! ![]() Not to be nosy, but how much money are you talking about ? If its small enough that it will be handled in small claims court, then you could go sit in at small claims court, check out the lawyers there, and see if any of them handles your type of problem. |

| If you were ordered by the court to pay the bill, owe the bill and have the money to pay the bill, then pay it already and be done with it. Your efforts here at controlling the creditor when you have no actual power in the situation and trying to call the shots will not make the court sympathetic to your situation. You will appear to be stalling payment of the bill, and you will be hammered. Pay the bill and close the account. Issue over. |
