inheritance question and bankruptcyWhat is the name of your state?GA. What amount of time has to elapse before you don't have to report an inheritance to the trustee? Does this apply to lottery winnings etc.? When does the clock start, at filing or discharge? Thanks |

| Usually it is 6 months after your discharge BUT that can change. It's really up to the Trustee. |

| An inheritance received that you become entitled to receive within 180 days after filing is part of the bankruptcy estate. See section 541(a)(5)(A). This time limit is NOT from discharge, and it's not up to the trustee how long it is. Post-petition lottery winnings are not part of the estate -- there's a current case where somebody won a big lottery prize after filing for ch. 7, and it won't affect his case at all.
