| Lawsuit/$O assets/Living with hiv/AIDS Georgia
I have just been served with a lawsuit from a creditor for prescription bills that I received a couple years ago (total $7500). I have absolutely no assets; not employed (unemployed since mid 2002 and left my employment because of my declining health due hiv/AIDS); my housing and medical expenses are paid by unmarried partner.
1. What action should I take in response to the lawsuit
2. What can I expect from the creditor and the courts?
I cannot afford an attorney. Unfortunately a settlement is not an option because I am not employed or plan on being employed in the future. My partner does not have the resources to assist me further financially. I have not filed for bankruptcy and would prefer not to do so, but I will have to do so if left with no other option (though I have nothing to bankrupt).
I am very afraid that the stress will lead to a further decline in my health. |
