I was recently contacted by collection agency regarding a debt that is 7 years old. I don't think the debt is valid but that is beside the point. My question is, what is the statute of limitations in Louisiana for collecting a debt? The debt was incurred in Louisiana for a time-share maintenance fee.

I should also mention that I have searched the state statutes on this forum and MANY other legal Web sites. I am really amazed that in this "information age" I cannot find answer to such a simple question.

This appears to be a frequent type of question, so if you don't know the answer but you can tell me where to find it please reply.

Thanks.

My response:

Sorry, but you're out of luck on this one, because it is a valid and collectable debt. Your State's Statute of Limitation is the same for Oral, Written, and Promissory agreements, and that is 10 years from the date of inception, or 10 years from the date of your last payment.
