Medical bills...overwhelmingWhat is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? I am from Kansas. I have no medical insurance and have had to go to the ER 3 times for a heart problem. Each trip cost at least $1,000.00. I have paid on these when I could, and just two days ago I agreed to make a payment on the 9th of August, but now they want all their money and I have been summoned to court. (JUST TWO DAYS AFTER TALKING TO THEM) Is there such a thing as medical bankruptcy? I don't know how I will ever pay this bill. Thanks in advance. ![]() |

| There is no such thing as a 'medical bankruptcy'. If you file BK, you must list ALL of your debts, you don't get to pick and choose. You're going to have to go to court, don't blow it off, they'll win by default and you might be stuck with a payment plan that you can't afford. If you go to court, you will likely be offered a payment plan and you will have the chance to get something you CAN afford. Take your financial papers with you.. proof of your income and expenses. This could also avoid a garnishment, which they'd probably get if you DON"T go. Unfortunately, negotiating on the phone doesn't work, you have to get it in writing or they ignore it. |

| Yuck. I have nearly half a million in medical debt from my pre-insurance days, and I've not had any threats of court-yet. Not like I'm working, I'm disabled. Yuck in itself-I'm 21 and want to be in the world, not confined to the walls of my home. But yes, go to court, etc., as she said. |

| Thanks everyone for responding to my question...especially "ladynred". I will take your advice and go to court and face the music. Maybe it won't turn out as bad as I think. Thanks again, Maggie |
