A question about moving and bankruptcy

What is the name of your state? Washington
I currently live in Washington state and have been here since October of 2004. I'm thinking about claiming bankruptcy but have a quick question. I'd like to move back to Iowa where I grew up. I was wondering if it's possible to move states and then claim bankruptcy right away or do I have to go through the entire proccess before I can move? Can I start the proccess and then move before it's final? thanks for any help you can offer

Two issues:

First is venue. You must reside in a state for six months before that state's bankruptcy court is the proper venue for the action.

Second is exemptions. Under the new law, Washington state exemption laws will govern even if you move to Iowa. May as well file in Washington and then move.
