Rebekka in VA again. If I plan to file for Chapter 7 and lose my home, can I move BEFORE I file or does that seem "pre-planned"? If I wait until after I file, then I have to worry about credit checks for an apt.

No, go ahead and move. You're not transferring property and it is prudent to have a place to live.
