Scared of LawyersWhat is the name of your state?Florida My husband and I are filing for bankruptcy as soon as we get the funds to do so. The last week I've gotten two letters from my creditors stating they are going to call lawyers and take legal action against me. Can I go to Jail for this? What's going to happen? My husband says don't call them since we don't have the money to pay and there really isn't anything to say. How should I handle this? ![]() |

| No, you are not going to jail for a debt. You need to get the money to get this filed, like yesterday.

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be. And your husband is correct. If you can't pay the bills (and aren't just trying to get out of them) then do not call. Your attorney will take care of that unpleasantness for you. You'll have enough stress in your life. Don't add to it.
