should I file??

I'm in Michigan. I have $320 in Credit card debt and my car just got reposessed (I now owe $4200). I am unemployed so I don't have much money for a lawyer. What chapter should I file if I should file at all? Are bankruptcy lawyers expensive?

I wouldn't file over $4500. You won't be unemployed forever. Get a job and when you get back on your feet see about starightening out your finances. A $3200 cc balance should only have a minimum payment of $10/month. Stay current on that.

I don't know what the fees are in your state, but in Indiana, the average chapter 7 BK fee is $500, and there is a $200 filing fee.

sorry, I didn't tell you everything I meant to. I am only 19 and plan on going to college for the next 4-8 years. Do you still suggest against filing?

No way I'd file over $4500. Were I you, I'd delay school for a semester and work as many hours as possible to get the auto repo paid. The $320 cc. Quit using it and pay the $10/month min. 19 is way to young to have a bk for such a small sum.

I'm going to track you down and kick you in the @ss. You're car's been repoed, leaving you with only $320 in debt and you want out. Well, filing will cost that much!

I'm 21 and have $346,000 (yes, three hundred and forty six THOUSAND) in medical bills and would give my eye teeth for my debts to be as low as yours.

How you fell behind on such a small amount (even with your car) is beyond me. You could have refinanced the car to a lower monthly payment, and your cc can't be more than 2% a month, or $10 which is the usual minimum minimum. You would have to be on drugs to file over that amount. You won't get school loans if you can't pay $320.

That was completely rude and uncalled for, I am sorry you are worse with money than I am but the car was a lease and I lost my job so I couldn't make my payments. my credit card has been deactivated for over a year, I have paid almost $1200 on it since then. Look, I am sorry you have so much in medical bills but there are more options to take care of medical bills than bankruptcy

Perhaps he was abrasive, but it would seem in your best interest to pursue alternatives other than bankruptcy if you can given the small amount of debt.
