| I have filed bankruptcy. I live in Illinois and spoke to a representative in the Bankruptcy Court office who told me the date my automatic stay (first trustee meeting) paperwork was sent to my creditors. I have the dated notice in my posession. It has been over two weeks and I am still receiving late notices attempting to collect the debt from three creditors. The "Notice of the Bankruptcy Case" clearly states that a creditor may not "contact a debtor by telephone, mail, or otherwise to demand repayment." What can I do to stop this? These creditors are violating the Bankruptcy Code. I will be contacting my attorney on Tuesday regarding this. What if he just shrugs this off. Can't I file a complaint somewhere? I thought an automatic stay was supposed to allow a debtor "breathing room." |
