Chapter 13, Student loans and post petition interest

i live in michigan but filed chap 13 in kentucky. i have a student loan from the state of illinois which was included in the 100% payment plan. we paid all of the debts in full. now, the student loan company is sending me letters telling me that i owe post petition interest. according to our lawyer, we should not have to pay it. the student loan people state that title 11, usc 502(b) requires us to pay this interest. is this true? when did title 11, usc 502(b) go into effect? if it happened after we filed, is it retroactive?

just a quick aside, the only reason we included the loans in the chap 13 was because the lawyer told us that it would freeze the interest ... a statement we do not have in writing.

i would be grateful for any advice that can be offered.
