To tell or not to tell

What is the name of your state? Ohio

It seems like many people keep their bankruptcy secret. I think I'd be inclined to tell anyone who wanted to know, especially family and friends. Not carefree about it, but just honest and open. Look, here's what happened, here's what we went through and are going through. Everyone's different, but it seems as though it'd be hard to keep the secret. More troubling than getting it out in the open, you know?

Just curious what anyone else thinks. Strictly a philosophical thread.

The one thing bankruptcy is NOT its 'private'. Bankruptcies are a matter of public record. Anyone who wants or cares to can look up bankruptcies at the court house or online via Pacer.

The reason people keep it 'secret' is the remnants of the old social stigma regarding bankruptcy, the perception that its shameful, deceiptful, irresponsible, etc., etc., etc. Personally, I could care less what anyone else will think, its MY LIFE and MY sanity that matters and I attach absolutely NO morality to it whatsover.
