Title 11 Bankruptsy relief

My wife purchased me a wristwatch for christmas. I had a watch that I really liked already, so she returned it and gave me a gift certificate to the jewlry store instead. She returned the watch in Feb 01. Well, I went to the store yesterday (14 May 01) and they have filed chapter 11 bankruptsy. They told me that they could not accept the gift certificate. Now my wife and I are out over $250.00. I still own the store for other purchases that I made at christmas. I have a good notion not to pay them anything until they accept the gift certificate, or just send the certificate in for payment of my debt to them. What can I do to seek a remedy? I live in Charleston, West Virginia. Thanks for your time, I would sincerely appreciate your help.
