Question

i live in new york. i have a 3 month old son and i am half owner on my home with my mother, my name is on the deed but the mortgage is in her name. i pay it though. she lives in n.c. and has a house there with a mortgage. i am not receiving child support from his father yet. i have filed papers for it but nothing yet. my question is can i file bankruptcy if i'm half owner on a home? will i lose my home if i file bankruptcy. how will this affect my mother and her credit? i have 3 loans that are up to date and so is my mortgage, however my credit card bills are more than i can pay now and i am behind more than 3 months on them. i don't see any other way, i just don't make enough money to pay the bills anymore. and my childcare expenses are so high i don't see an end in sight. my bills are on their way to collectors, if not there yet. any advice would be appreciated.

You should see a lawyer about a chapter 13 filing. That's where you will present a payment plan over a period of years and you can keep the interest in the house.
