30 Day Notice for month to month boarding contract

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

I entered into a month to month boarding contract with a boarding facility for my horse. Monthly board covers from the 15th of the month to the 14th of the following month. The terms on the contract state:

"TERMINATION OF BOARD - In the event that the owner would like to terminate this Boarding Agreement, wither it be in good terms or bad terms, you shall give this stable a 30-day written notice to terminate. This Boarding Agreement is a month-to-month Boarding agreement; therefore there are no refunds. The owner will be responsible for an additional 30-day s of board with the 30- day written notice to terminate. The owner cannot and will not remove the boarded horse until all fees are paid to XXXXX Farm in full. Boarder must notify owner of all arrangements of dates and time made to move the horse from XXXXXX Farm. No one shall remove the horse without notifying XXXXX Farm prior and all invoices are paid in full."

Now, I gave a written 30 day notice on October 1st and paid board thru the 31st of October. Now the barn owner is saying that I have to pay them thru November 14th because the terms are month to month.

The way I read the termination clause I only have to give 30 days written notice and 30 days board. Which I have done. Do I need to pay an additional 15 days? In effect paying for 45 days.... Please advise. We need to pick up and move our horse. Thank you. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

It sounds like they are correct. You tried to only pay an additional 1/2 month, not a full 30 as required.

It is pretty amazing that our society has reached a point where the effort necessary to extract oil from the ground, ship it to a refinery, turn it into plastic, shape it appropriately, truck it to a store, buy it and bring it home, is considered less effort than what it takes to just wash the spoon, when you are done with it.

But if I gave notice on 10/1 and paid thru 10/31, isn't that 30 days?

Not an additional 30 days, beyond the current contract period.
