AC unit is not passing inspection. New owners of AC company say "tough luck"

We had a new AC and Heat unit installed in July 2010. The final inspection was never completed. We are selling our house and have re-opened the permit to have the inspection done. The inspector has found a couple issues with the installation. We called the company that sold us the unit and the company has been bought out. It still operates under the same name, just new owners. The new owners say they are not responsible for the installtion issues with our unit. Do we have any recourse with this?

Send the a demand letter in compliance with MGL Chapter 93A. If they don't respond, you can collect treble damages.

You can also call the Mass licensing board and request they reimburse you from their indemnification fund.

Of course, it's entirely possible that the new owners didn't buy any liabilities of the old company. Then any damages (much less treble damages) are out the window.
