What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Minnesota

I am selling a car to a student at school, the title is under my parents names but i pay for the car ( i just give them money for it). the car is mine except the fact that the title is just under their name. if i were to sell it, would i be considered a merchant if my parents own a car dealership?!

Further out, if I were to acquire the title under my name and my name alone, would I still be considered a merchant if my parents own a dealer?

You cannot sell the car. The title holder can sell the car. It appears the seller is a merchant.

Assuming you are not a minor, your parents ownership of a dealership has no bearing on your status as a merchant.

Alright, that's what I thought. I am not a minor, I am 22, just was a mess of things when my parents acquired a new car (decided I wanted it, I just started paying them and we just never got around to transferring the title). I am actually in the process of getting the title transferred to me ASAP.

So once I would become the title holder, my parents owning a dealership wouldn't have any effect on me? BUT just to add, what if i work at their dealer a couple days of the month? Would that change anything?
