I purchased a car in Illinois and have since moved to Nevada. Recently I sent a note requesting my name be changed along with a copy of my marriage certificate. The bank sent me a letter saying that they cannot change my name without an original signature on the contract and the contract needs to stay in the bank. Therefore, unless I fly to Illinois to sign their document, they are going to leave all paperwork in my maiden name. Is this correct or are they just trying to avoid extra paperwork on their behalf? Wouldn't a signed and notarized copy of the signature page of the contract be just as official?
