backing out of a deal

What is the name of your state? Arizona
If a seller backs out of a deal to sell an item that we have put a deposit down on (and they have already cashed that said deposit check) are they bound to returning us the deposit??

depends whether your deposit was non-refundable or not, check your contract/agreement. If your paperwork says it's refundable, it'll generally dictate terms (ie: within 30 days).
