California: I took my boat engine to a repairman who works out of his home. He agreed to perform some repairs and call me when the boat was ready for pickup. I paid him $500 and have a handwritten receipt. It's now been 2 months and he won't return my phonecalls. He still has the boat engine and the money. Is there anything I can do short of suing him? I want the engine back as soon as possible and don't want to wait on a court judgment.
