Contracted with a car lot that finances it's own. Lemon law does not apply in AL for used cars. Mechanical problems since day one. Still 9 mos left on contract. Service bill plus car note extremely difficult to manage. Have attempted to purchase another vehicle but no other dealer wants to pay-off. May I legally return the car to the lot (or if not and I return it anyway - what are the consequences)?

My response:

You should have had your own mechanic inspect the car before you put pen to paper.

Anyway, sure you can return the car. However, expect to be sued for the balance of the contract. You see, that's the point . . . there's a contract with your signature on it and, if you fail to make the payments per the contract, your credit will suffer (voluntary repossession) and you'll wind up with a judgment against you.
