What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Alaska

I just got high speed cable Internet. We only have one real cable company and they are basically free to charge what they want. Right now as it is I am paying far beyond the national average for my cable at a speed far less then most states and have upload/download monthly transfer limits when most have none. For something closer to average I would have to pay over 120$ for something that cost most 45$. I don't live out in the back woods or some 1 horse hick town this is the major city I'm in! I don't feel its fair to be charged more then everyone else for a product thats of general sub quality and restricted download/transfer limits. The transfer limit alone is a joke considering todays general file size and demands you can use it up in no time, with a major charge if you go over btw. I am not sure if any legal action can be taken or if this is just a suck to be in Alaska situation. Is there any hope for me

I use my time for 3D programing, graphic design, and audio production but thank you for your concern in my porno needs. There are lots of things people don't "have" to have that are part of our daily lives and fair prices are expected for those. Anyone have a real answer?

How much are you paying? Cable and cable internet in NYC is $120 plus tax, which is about right. In Alaska the infrastructure charges are a lot more so that is why you are paying more.

**Wow! I'm going to quit whining about our charges ($60.00). Until Alaska gets other competitors there; the company can charge what it is free to. Thanks to our government, lifting some very strict regulations a few years back.

Of course the writer could go out and spend a couple hundred thou or so and set up his own high speed network, then sell the services to his neighbors.

cable was de regulated and internet services shave no regulation when it comes to rates you must pay what they ask or find other alternatives . If you have to shop around see what it would cost to do Internet over a satelite dish . You can also use the dish for Voip telephone services and get some rather good deals for that too . Your local rates are what they are due to lack of competition more than likely . Where I live the independant phone co is protected from having to open the local exchange to competition with MCI neighborhood and other like phone services that are available in exchanges owned by Qwest So if one wants high speed internet here they are limited to satelite or this local phone co wich charges 49.00 per month for speed of up to 384/128 and more money for higher speeds . that cost less in the Twin Cities region . so start shopping around to see if you are able to find another way that cost less .
