The California PUC has ruled that the utilities in our state will be allowed to raise the utility rates 47%. What seems wrong is that they are going to make this retroactive to March. We purchased power at a rate that was set. I understand that we will now purchase power at a new rate. But how can they re-charge us for power used? Is this legal. How can they be allowed to charge us more for services already used and paid for. Is this not extortion? Do the citizens of California have any recourse for this? Can we file a class action lawsuit against the PUC and the utilities for such extortion of the consumer?
