I am in the state of Maryland. I signed a contract for a cleaning service to come in and clean my house once a week. The cleaning service is fine, but there a couple of issues with this contract that are not working for me. Such as if we are sick and don't want the service that week we have to pay anyway.

Is there anyway to cancel service with this provider? The provider states that there is no provision to cancel service prior to the end of the full year. Stupid me, I assumed that if I just didn't want the service any longer I could just give written notice and cancel, this is how it worked with the other companies I have worked with in the past.

My response:

Sorry. You agreed to a "service", not a per "occurance" contract. As long as the cleaning persons are ready, willing and able to clean your home, no matter what other circumstance may exist in your life, you owe them for their service - - whether being used by you or not.
