I cancelled a reservation I had made at an inn (a bed and breakfast). The inn has yet to credit my account for the deposit. I was never informed of any cancellation policy when I made the reservation in the first place and I cancelled 3 weeks before the date I was supposed to stay. Can they legally charge me? I live in New York and the inn is also in New York. Help!

If nothing is said about the return of a deposit, and the contract is silent about it, usually it is not refundable upon a cancellation. In contract terms, it is the consideration you pay for their holding the reservation open for you.
