What is the name of your state Washington

We were given a car that we were going to scrap. We desided it was too nice to scrap and wanted to fix it. Come to find out there is a car title loan on it. We had put a pretty good lump of time and cash into it before we found this out, and now we want to license it but are worried that we cant because of this unpaid loan. Can we put a mechanics lien on it for what we have in it? Can the car title loan place take the car from us even if the loan wasnt ours but the person we got it from? We asked him about the loan but hes being a jerk and wont have anything to do with it because he doesnt want to pay the loan off.

ThanksWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

So you got the car for free, with no title, you couldn't transfer it into your name, and nothing about all that raised any flags?

You won't be able to title the vehicle until the car title loan is paid off.

If the owner (which isn't you since you can't legally transfer ownership) doesn't benefit from the work by getting the car back, you have no recourse on a mechanics lien.

Not to mention the fact that any other lien would be subordinate to the existing lien ;)

Unless you are a licensed auto repair facility and have a signed work order in hand, you cannot place a mechanic's lien on the vehicle. As stated, it would be a waste of time even if you could.
