I live in Washington State.
My question is this.

I Co-signed on a vehicle loan for a boyfriend, at the time we were dating.

Now we have broken up, and I do not want to be responsible for the loan of the vehicle.

My name is on the loan, title, and registration of the vehicle and so his is name. I have asked him to remove my name as co-signer of the vehicle, and he refuses to.

I have went and taken the vehicle back into my possesion, only to have the police department tell me that I stole the vehicle and that I must return it to him.

I just want to have my name removed from any financial responsibility of the loan or to be able to take the vehicle into my possession.

What can I do?

Thank you very much for any info you can give me on this situation.
