What is the name of your state? California

I just got laid off, and am commited to Surewest DSL service until May of next year. Now if I cancel, their terms state that I am to pay a $125 early termination fee, plus all the months of service up until the end of the contract.

Now is that legal to do at all? I mean, essentially they would be charging for services not rendered, so can I get out of that at all and only pay the termination fee of $125?

Thanks in advance
