What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? missouri.
We hired a contractor to do our siding on our house and put in doors and windows. We told him before the job was started that we wanted screen doors also. He came back with a bid of 3950 for materials and labor with the agreement that we get the materials. He repeatedly sent us to get materials that he needed as the job went on instead of getting them up front. Like he would send us to get the doors and then after we get back tell us what measurements he needs on the windows and to go get them. He also didnt measure correctly the amount of siding needed and had to order more. Well when the job was done and we added up the materials, he didnt like what was left over. Out of the 3950-3150 dollars went to materials. That left him with 800 which we paid. He went home and came back saying we owed another 1100. He said that he only figured the materials being 2000 leaving him with 1950 labor. That was not how the bid read. It said 3950--labor and materials included. The guy drank on the job and repeatedly showed up drunk. The job was not done satisfactorly. Some areas look like it was pieced together quickly. I have pictures of it all. He says he did extra work. The only extra work he did was having to make new windows fit which he knew would have to be done on an older house. It took him almost 3 weeks to side a 800 sq ft home. He showed up at about 10 or 11 am and left at around 4 taking an hour for lunch. He also spent alot of time talking or looking instead of working. It took him a week to put in 6 windows and thats just putting them in--i have to box them in on the inside.
Can he get the extra 1100 or am i right that the materials just cost more than he thought they should and he should have bid higher to begin with if he wanted more money?
