Hello there,

I am having an issue with a contractor. We did not have a contract (possibly not smart). We made an agreement to have granite counter tops installed, as well as a new sink for 3,800 - he was informed this was all we could afford to pay. We ended up having to pay a bit extra because the cabinets were bad, not a problem. We told him originally we wanted a back splash done as part of it. I provided all the materials for it (tile, grout, etc). Now he magically is asking us for an extra 700 dollars for doing it. We are located in NY.

Any suggestions?

Is the work completed? Have you reminded the contractor of your limited budget? An agreement and a contract are probably the same thing. Are you trying to tell us that this is an oral contract? Do you have any letters , texts, or e-mails discussing the budget?
