Maryland - I signed up for a home security monitoring service in Oct,1996. The original contract said the "initial term shall be 5 years at a rate of $300/yr, payable monthly". There was nothing in the contract about early termination penalties. I switched to another company in March, 2000, and promptly informed the original company of my plan. This year, they sent me a copy of the original agreement saying I will owe them the monthly fee until Oct., 2001. I feel the "initial term of 5 years" does not contractually bind me to pay for the full 5 years, but merely states the rate for the 5 year term. Am I contractually bound when there is no clear explanation or description in the contract of any early termination policy?
