Hi. I live in New York City. I signed up with a local gym, signed the contract, and paid the $99 per year fee up front. My year of paid service has not expired, but when I recently attempted to go to the gym they would not allow me to enter unless I paid them a *new* $1 per visit service charge. Some quick math will show that if a person visits the gym three times per week, this service charge adds up to $156 extra per year...that I never signed a contract to pay. The man explained to me that their bills went up blah blah blah, and that they needed "member support". In my opinion they are forcing members to donate money per visit by not allowing them in, even if they have paid for a full years service. I'm pretty sure that this is illegal, and somewhere along the lines of extortion, but I need advice please!
