Deposit placed on a Car.

A friend put a deposit down, but now cannot take delivery of it. Dealer says he needs to sell it before it arrives on his lot in order for me to get my deposit back. This car was ordered.

Can a Dealer refuse to refund the $500 if you decide that you don't want or cant afford the car.

YES, especially if its a special order and maybe HARD to sell fast.

I mean would you want to buy say a watermelon colored car? Or a car with No air conditioning?

If the dealer can make a fast sale and NOT lose any money, then he would probably have a claim to get the deposit back.
