What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

Hello
In early June of this year my wife and I got married at a Chateau in Northern France. The chateau was privately owned and we entered into a contract to hire the chateau for the weekend (it is regularly used for these types of event).
Along with the rental fee we were required to provide a damage deposit 7 days before arriving at the chateau (just under $3k).
On return to the US we have not received our damage deposit back, even though we caused no damage, and the owner is not responding to any requests for information.
From a legal standpoint, how would I go about starting the process of making a claim against the owner? Can I use the US legal system to start this or would I have to find some method of using the French legal system?

Any opinions or advice greatly appreciated.

You would have to use the French legal system.
