What is the name of your state? FL

our property taxes just went up ALOT
because in the state of FL (Gainesville) after one year
your property taxes are based on the market value of
the house and not the (old) assesed value

i have two questions:

one, the county's market value of our house
is 10,000 over what we assessed it as
is there anyway we can get them to reassess it at a lower rate?

and two,
our bank just let us know that since our taxes have gone up
that our escrow acct is in the negative
and we have to pay, not only the negative portion but the amount to get it back up the the required amt
and this is added onto our monthly mortage payment
the total is around $400 / mo
this is WAY too much for us to really handle
is there anything we can do about this?

thanks, scott

My Answer: You can go to the County Assessors office and "challenge" their decision on your home assessed value. You have so many typos in this sentence that it is hard to understand what you are saying. The way you have worded it is that YOU have assessed your own property as is. You do not assess your own property.

My Answer: If you are successful in getting a lower assessment for your property then this amount will change but not until then. The bank needs to collect this so they can pay your taxes when they come due.

If the County finds that they have assessed your property correctly, then you can always sell it if the payments are too much for you to handle.

escrow acct

is there anyway we can get the bank to roll these charges into the rest of our mortgage or at least for a few years instead all at once in one year?

I doubt it. They may be able to prorate them into each monthly payment, but then, I don't know what yoour tax year is or when your taxes are due. Have you called them to discuss it with them?
