Im from California and here is my question. At work I recieved a call from someone I thought was the phone company. I thought they wanted me to verify our address. They asked if I was authorized to do this, which I thought was to verify the address. Now the office received a bill for $299.00 for a subscription to a white and yellow page publication which they say I authorized. They have the conversation on tape, which I did not know I was being recorded. You clearly hear me giving authorization. I have only worked here one month and clearly do not have authorization. Is my office responsible for this bill.
Thank you,

This telephone sales of phony phonebook ads is a very common con. Though the following detail the scams as applied to invoices, you have just been victimized by the current 'calling ad' scam.

Questions:
1) You said, "I recieved a call from someone I thought was the phone company". What made you think that the caller was from THE phone company??
2) Your post is a little confusing. You say, that you clearly gave authorization ("You clearly hear me giving authorization."), then you say you didn't have the authorization ("I have only worked here one month and clearly do not have authorization"). Which is it??
3) What did you think you were 'authorizing' when you gave them 'authorization'??

And finally, to answer your 'key' question ("Is my office responsible for this bill"). Do you have corporate authorization to purchase or make committments for this 'product'?? If no, then you, nor your employer, are liable for this claim.
