I recently signed a six mos contract with a literary agency from San Angelo Texas. A few days after signing, I discovered that my agent was under investigation by the San Angelo Police Department for fraud charges. I also discovered several warnings posted on writer's weekly website. To make matters worse, I also sent my agent $125.00 to help offset the costs associated with contacting publishers about my book. I was unaware of my agents troubles at the time I signed the contract. Is there a way for me to get out of this contract, and possibly get my money back? Or am I screwed? The agency claimed to have helped publish several new writers, but upon further investigation, I discovered that they have done no such thing. Isn't this false advertising? Apparently, I'm not the only writer to have been duped by this agency. Any suggestions?
