minor signed apartment lease

my 17 year old son signed a lease with his 20 year old girlfriend to rent an apartment without my knowledge. They lived there a couple of months and decided to call it quits - relationship prblems, apartment was dump in bad neighborhood, etc. Was the lease valid even though he was a minor? Grace
