My husband had some problems with IRS and we hired a company to help us file an appeal to our offer in compromise rejection. We met with this company rep and gave them $1200 to file appeal. We told him that we only had about 2 weeks left to file appeal or we would lose that right. He told us to call IRS and tell them we hired their company to file appeal. Did that and IRS told us they did not care who we hired we still only had 2 weeks to file appeal. After numerous voice mails to company that were never returned we ended up filing appeal ourselves. When company finally got back to us we told them to refund our money since they did not do anything for us. They only refunded 800 of 1200 we paid saying they had started working on our case. That was impossible to do since we had not returned any paperwork to them. They refuse to provide us with an accounting of the 400 they kept. Do we have any recourse against them?
