I have twice been told by representatives in the Salisbury, MD Social Security office that Soc. Sec. does not recognize power-of-attorney. In the case of my mother, with alzheimers, and my wife, who suffered a massive stroke and was in a coma for several months, that caused unwanted hardship during already stressful periods.

Were they right? Can they just ignore the power-of-attorney contract?

Thank you
