What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

I need advise. We purchased a Lane Reclining Sofa, Loveseat and Chair. The reclining sofa has caused worn marks in our carpet and the sofa and loveseat are defective. The manager from the store where we purchased this furniture has finally agreed to take back the furniture and credit our account. However, the responsibility of the carpet has been left with the manufacturer, Lane. Several months have past and we still do not have a resolution on the carpet. The problem is that the furniture company is going out of business and insists on picking up their furniture and is basically washing their hands of the problem with the carpet.

What can and should we do?

How are you figuring that the carpet manufacturer has caused a liability? The furniture was put the floor just like you put your feet on the floor. In case you're wondering, it's also quite doubtful that your homeowner's insurance (or renter's if that's your case) will sense any liability either.

Sorry for the confusion. I had thought the store where we purchased the furniture would be liable for the damage to the carpet but they are passing the responsibility on to the manufacturer of the furniture, Lane who ofcourse has no incentive to follow through.
