refund policy

I live in Canada..but that shouldnt make a big difference.....anyway......i rented a costume at a home run costume shop last week. they took our visa imprint and said that they would cash it once we pick up the costume next week (which is tomorrow, halloween). the forcast calls for rain tomorrow night, and the costume was expensive too, 40 dollars! for one day!. so anyway, i called them back today and said i wanted to cancel it. they said that they dont accept refunds or cancels because of their refund policy. to my knowledge, their was no sign, and nobody told me about a "no refund" policy. can anybody tell me what i can or cant do?

MY RESPONSE: Yes. You "can't" come to a U.S. based website and expect an answer to a Canadian question of law.
