I am renting a television set from a rental agency. I am 8 days past due and they are threatening felony theft charges? Can they do this? What rights do I have?

Thanks!

My response:

Yes, they can. It's the same concept as when you rent a car, and keep it longer than your supposed to, or if you fail to pay the rental charges. Like the car scenario, you don't own the television.

You are, in effect, stealing someone else's property.

You have the right to pay your bill, or return the television - - or suffer the consequences.
