My wife and I signed an agreement with a local contractor to provide roof installation, gutter installation and interior repairs and painting to our home. 2 days later they called to inform us that they couldn't supply the gutter installation. We did not write to them formally cancelling the contract, but based on their inability to fulfill the agreement, we pursued and secured other contractors to do the work. Now the original contractor wants us to give them the job or pay for the time they spent at our home quoting the job. No work has been performed to date. By the way, we were never given a copy of the signed agreement. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
